It is a rainy drizzly day here in NYC, the perfect day for sitting back with a cup of tea and contemplating the past year. I celebrated the one year anniversary of my business on Saturday.
It was nice reflect back on the past year and everything that I have accomplished. Sometimes it is hard for me to step back and see the full picture especially since I am juggling all the nitty gritty details day to day. I sometimes get wound up on the small things that went wrong, the sales I could have made, or missed opportunities. When in reality a lot has happened with the past year. For those things that didn’t go as planned, things I couldn’t have imagined came out of them and it has been an amazing journey!
I was talking with a friend the other day about my initial business plan and how if I were to take that out and go point by point things haven’t gone the way I have anticipated, but you know what at the end of the day it is ok. No one said that the first few years of business were going to be easy and I’ve had some rocky moments but throughout it all have never stopped believing in what I do and what I want to put out into the world.
I chose the above quote because it is something that I would like to take with me into my next year of running Kimberly Lewis Home. There have definitely been times when I have thought ‘what am I doing?’ and I often have to remind myself to run my business fearlessly and truthfully. I love the products that I put out and I hope that others find joy in them and adding them to their homes. I can’t wait to see what year #2 brings!
Saturday was the New York Junior League House Tour, the event that I have been planning with my committee for the past few months and anxiously waiting for! The New York Junior League is according to our mission statement ”an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.”
I recently joined the NY Junior League in the fall and this was my first big event that I have taken part of. I had a lot of fun putting together the House Tour with my committee and it was great to see all of our hard work pay off as well as raise money for the organizations that the League works with. We featured some amazing houses everything from a 5 story townhouse overlooking the East River to a downtown Greenwich Village loft designed by Joe Cangelosi to a fun Soho Bachelor pad designed by Kimberlee Paige Hanson to Nicole Cohen of Sketch42‘s modern family home. The tour featured 10 residences total and there was definitely something for everyone! If you missed it this time around don’t worry because the NYJL puts on a tour twice a year and you can catch a whole new round of fabulous Manhattan residences in the Fall. The artwork above was done by Kristen McGinnis, not only one is she one of the fearless leaders on the Home Design committee but also an interior designer whose work you may be familiar with!
After working up some patterns and working with the Stacey, the buyer at the museum gift store we narrowed it down to the above pattern which is based off Vuillard’s Painting Mme Tristan Bernard. The pattern was inspired by the fanciful interior backgrounds of Vuillard’s paintings. I took inspiration from the paintings rich palette as well as the lattice work in the background.
If you want to check out the actual painting that I was inspired by check out the exhibit in NYC at The Jewish Museum and while you are at it pop over into the gift store to see our custom trays as well as fabric that is available in the store and can be seen in the window displays.
I am excited to share with you some photos of one of the showrooms where Kimberly Lewis Home wallpapers are represented! One of the first showrooms to pick up the collection was Urban Source in Chicago. They are an interactive design studio where customers have access to an exciting collection of materials and finishes formerly only available to the trade.
A very big thanks to Jenny, co-founder and owner who sent us these snaps of our collection in their showroom. If you are in the Chicago area definitely hop on over to their design studio and take a look for yourself!
When Gilly Flowers & Events contacted us about our wallpaper Sierra in Cadmium we were interested in seeing what they had up their sleeves. We were told that it was being used in a wedding in LA for a reception. We were pleasantly surprised when they emailed these photos from the event to us! Gilly Flowers & Events used the paper for the table centerpieces as well as making a statement on the table arrangement board. Love it and such a creative use!
